Pew Commission on Children in Foster Care: Call for Input Update

The Call for Input

In June, the Pew Commission on Children in Foster Care issued a call for input to individuals, organizations, associations and agencies within the child welfare community. The Commission has one year to develop effective, practical policy recommendations to improve existing federal financing mechanisms and improve court oversight of child welfare cases, and issued its request for input in an effort to consider the broadest possible array of options related to its areas of focus.

Frontline workers, foster and adoptive parents, former foster youth, academics, advocates, judges, doctors, and representatives of organizations, agencies and associations engaged in protecting child welfare have all answered the Commission's call for input. As of today, the Pew Commission has received more than 150 recommendations which offer substantive, research and experience-based examples of innovation within the areas of federal financing and court oversight. A number of states and localities, individuals and organizations have been working to improve child welfare services, and we are grateful for their input.

New Deadline

In response to a number of inquiries we have received from individuals unable to meet the deadline, we would ask that you submit all input by Friday, August 15th at the latest. If you have any questions about submission guidelines, please refer to our website, or contact Gina Russo.

Next Steps

All of the input we have received will be read, reviewed and synthesized by the Pew Commission staff and considered by Commission members at their next meeting, in mid-September. This input will play a critical role in the creation and adoption of Commission recommendations, which will be announced in 2004.
